Resources for Researchers and Clinicians

CPIC Scholar Circle

The CPIC Scholar Circle facilitates individual conversations with our Scholars and reveals questions about the journey along the academic research career pathway. We invite a senior researcher to join scholars in facilitated discussions about their career development in academic research. Facilitated by scholar program director, James H. Willig, MD, professor of medicine and associate dean of Clinical Education in the UAB School of Medicine.

Rare Disease Research (RDR) Training Program

The Rare Disease Research (RDR) Training Program is an annual training program with a new cohort every October. The Certificate Program in RDR is an eight-week curriculum provided over an academic year that has six components:

  1. An initial two day face-to-face RDR methods and policy workshop.
  2. A series of semi-monthly interactive, web-based seminars on methodologies.
  3. A semi-monthly 'chalk board' videoconference focusing on individual trainee RDR projects.
  4. A web portal with course content, opportunities for interaction among trainees and between trainees and teachers/mentors.
  5. A 'capstone' research project presentation at the semi-annual RDCRN meeting.
  6. A CTSA tracking and evaluation system and a pre-and post-test to quantify understanding of the topics involved in RDR prior to and following the curriculum.

Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Training Academy

The Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Training Academy partners with CPIC to provide multi-module trainings in mentoring (Case Studies in Mentoring) and team science (Case Studies in Collaboration and Teamwork). In addition, scholars seeking foundational knowledge in clinical and translational science may apply for admission to a six-month, certificate Clinical and Translational Science Training Program. Content includes the following modules: clinical trials, epidemiology, biostatistics, ethics, clinical genetics research, behavioral and outcomes research, and dissemination of results. In addition, self-directed learning is available via the CCTS Video Channel’s library of resources.
